We’ve all been there, someone hands you a crusty old deck that has been in the kitchen drawer for 12 years and asks you to show them a trick. The box is falling apart, some cards are stuck together, and it looks like half the Hearts are missing. What do you do? For years this has been a common question in online magic groups and has been the basis for several books and DVDs (eg. Paul Cummins “From A Shuffled Deck In Use”).

So this month we are going to…

    PASS THE DECK!

1.  A brand new deck of cards is opened and handed to the first club member.
2. The member performs a single trick with that deck.
   1. Only one deck is used
   2. The deck can be altered if needed (crimps, bends, folds)
   3. You can even tear up a card, if that’s what your trick calls for!
   4. You don’t have to use the entire deck – packets tricks are fair game
   5. It can be card magic, manipulation, a gambling scam, a stunt, or even mentalism
   6. Other props can be added (coins, rubber bands, Sharpies, etc)
3. After thunderous applause, what’s left of the deck gets passed to the next member until all members have performed.
4. This continues until there is nothing left of the deck or we run out of ideas!

This will be a fun challenge. We’ll all get show off a bit, grow as performers, and hopefully see some great ideas that we can add to our emergency repertoires.
