Hello Magicians!
Tuesday night we had our August Meeting and a LOT happened! Here are some of the highlights…
We learned that Frank LaPlaca is stepping down as Vice President to take on some new pursuits. Fortunately, Frank is NOT leaving the group and will still be an active part of the SWFL Magicians! Dan Stroud has graciously agreed to step in as interim VP until our elections this November. Thank you Dan!
Tuesday night also saw a couple changes to our roster. Johan Warden has left the club to pursue a new life in Ireland! Johan will be missed and we wish him the best of luck in all his new adventures. Can anyone say “Irish Chapter of the SWFL Magicians Association”? We also welcomed a new member; Gabby Ruggeri! Welcome to the club, Gabby!
The SWFL Magicians are officially confirmed the September 5th Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk. I’ll send out details as soon as I get them from the organizer. We get to show off our new acrylic top hat tip jar courtesy of Magician of the Year Tommy Aces!
Planning for a Holiday Show continues. David Lounsbury is working with the VFW to nail down a date that works for everyone.
Our new VP Dan is looking into a possible lecture for October. Award-winning Argentinian magician Martin Braesses will be in South Florida from September 29 to October 7. Dan will see if any dates work for us.
The theme of the meeting was Back To School, with everyone invited to perform, then teach, an effect. And our members did NOT disappoint!
–Ziggy started us off with his handling of Mental Epic designed for walk-around. Using just some card stock, Ziggy was able to predict 3 random thoughts! Economical and easy to follow for the spectators.
–David was up next with a 3-way prediction from Rick Lax, that ended with David predicting he would be “Off by 3” on the final prediction. Ad he was!
–Our newest member, Gabby, was not shy and jumped up to contribute a rubber that jumped from her hand to a cell phone!
–Up next was John B with the most popular trick of the night. A post-it note attached to the face card of the deck, penetrates into the deck to become stuck to a signed selection! This description really doesn’t do it justice.
–Frank showed off a smooth-as-silk card location where an indicator card magically reverses itself in the deck then leads to the selected card!
–Tom; our Magician of the Year (In His Price Range) presented a very nice card transposition in the spectator’s hands using just four cards!
–Jay stunned our two visitors with a finger ring that jumped, flew, penetrated, and vanished in a flurry of magic.
–Your humble Most Illustrious 😂 performed his current favorite card opener; Eddie Fechter’s ‘Be Honest, What Is It?’ to the delight of one of the night’s visiting muggles.
It was a really fun, and at times unruly, night of fun and magic. I hope our next meeting is equally as fun!
See you all at the Art Walk!
