It’s almost time!
The SWFL Magicians Association August meeting will be Tuesday August 27th! This month is a magic free-for-all! That’s right, there is no theme for the August meeting. If it’s magic, we want to see it. Cards. Coins. Canes. Silks. Small forest creatures. It’s up to you!
We have a lot to talk about this month; an upcoming lecture, the Art Walk, and a brand new website! And remember to bring along a couple items to sell. We’ll also have some magic news and our lucky raffle.

A discussion was held on getting the International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 303 and the Society of American Magicians Assembly restarted required memberships with a minimum of 10 members each. This would allow us to have support from both of the organizations as well as getting our ring and assembly reports posted in the Linking Ring and the MUM magazines.
A 50-50 raffle was held and club member Mike Yost, known for his Ghost Tours in Ft Myers Beach was the winner.
Club members followed up with demonstrations and explanations of tricks by club members. Tom Matera led off with a quick mentalism trick called “Liar or Truth Teller”, where he was assisted by Dan Stroud and Cal Buckmaster. He followed up with a new card trick release known as “On Second Thoughts” which is accomplished with a new system replacing rough and smooth. Frank LaPlaca provided entertainment by matching a selected card with a predicted national flag. Mike Yost used multiple piles of cards to predict the selected card. Jay Relkin tested our vision with “100th Monkey”. Dan Stroud did an out of this world “Book Test. Cal Buckmaster did a quarter vanish from inside of a folded card followed by a card prediction. Finally, the last trick for the evening was John Butoroc’s version of “Ring and Rope”.
Following the last trick of the night, most of the club members retired for a late-night snack at Hooters.
